Youth Troupe

Kids performing

The Philly Circus Youth Troupe is a group of young people who want to pursue circus performing more seriously. Set up in the model of a gymnastics “team”, this group of kids has designated practice times 3 days per week. Practice sessions are heavily discounted from regular class prices, in order to make the troupe more affordable for families.

The troupe has the opportunity to represent the circus school by performing at community events on weekends. Any funds raised from their performances will be put into a scholarship fund, to help underprivileged kids to participate in circus school classes.

Students are expected to attend all of the practice sessions, and it is hoped that they will be available to attend all performances as well. We will give families as much notice as possible of scheduled performances.

Note: Aerial skills will not be practiced / performed by the kids troupe. Ground skills only! Juggling, diabolo, devil stick, plate-spinning, rola-bola, rolling globe, unicycle, tightwire, clowning, tumbling, and pyramids.

Auditions for the troupe take place at the beginning of each kids’ class session. (The next round is tentatively planned for early March, 2010.) Please let us know as soon as possible if your child is interested in participating. We will schedule the auditions at times convenient for the coaches and for your family.

Auditions should include: a performance, 5 minutes or less, with the circus apparatus of the student’s choice. Students will then also be asked to improvise something requested by the coaches.
