The Green Fairy Cabaret

The Green Fairy Cabaret

Look up! Philadelphia School of Circus Arts transforms the region's skyline into a dazzling flight back to 1900s Paris. Fly with the "Green Fairy" as she presents aerial and acrobatic feats, plus comedy, juggling and spectacular physical skills. "The Green Fairy Cabaret" runs from Thursday, April 14, 2011 to Sunday, April 17, 2011, at the Kimmel Center's Hamilton Garden, at 10:00pm daily, and 12:00pm (Noon) on Saturday and Sunday. This new original production, part of the Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts, marks the first-time PSCA performs in Center City Philadelphia.

In the early 1900s, Paris sparkled with five permanent circuses. Night after night, artists watched the shows and mingled after hours with the jugglers, saltimbanques, clowns, harlequins and acrobats who virtually embodied artistic risk. Painters, sculptors and circus artists challenged the status quo by redefining the limits of human possibility. The popular – and controversial – drink absinthe (nicknamed the Green Fairy) was rumored to push these limits even further. The region's top circus artists will take you on a trip to this creative and socially volatile period with a dazzling and comical performance with fabric (tissu), aerial ladder, trapeze and acrobatics, all performed overhead at Philadelphia's most breathtaking rooftop spaces, the Kimmel Center's Hamilton Garden.

The show stars Aaron Cromie (Comedian), Kendra Greaves (fabric/tissu), John Jarboe (emcee), Kitsie Lundell (aerial ladder), Harley Newton (aerial ladder), Niff Nicholls (trapeze), Anthony Ruiz (acrobatic duo), Erica Saben (acrobatic duo), and Dave Smith (juggling). "Green Fairy" is directed by PSCA's Managing Director Marcotte. Original music will be created by Eric Michaels.

Tickets are $16 for seniors (60 and older), students and children (12 and older), and $20 for adults. All tickets are valid for general admission seating. Tickets are on sale now at the Kimmel Center Box Office, by calling (215) 546-PIFA or by visiting www.pifa.org. The daytime show is family-friendly for children of all ages. The nightly show has its own special rewards, including a special "Green Fairy Absinthe Bar."
